campus-web: So this is your very first time in Germany and your second concert tonight. Did you like it here in Cologne? Adam: Very very much. We loved that. It's very very great. Darren: At some places we're really busy, but at others there might be only 15 people ore something and that's what we thought – there would be 15 people. We just had no idea what to expect. Playing at every crowd is supposed to be greatest. campus-web: How is it in Scotland? Sold out venues there? Adam: Small. Not as many people turn up. We do care at our hometowns. We're from Edinburgh. In Germany they are more singing and dancing at our concerts. Darren: In Scotland people are more drunken. We were surprised that the audience could sing our songs. campus-web: So why Germany? Who decided that? Adam: We have a booking agent and we just do whatever he says. campus-web: And did you hear anything about Germany before? Darren: I lived in Cologne. campus-web: So do you speak German? Darren: Ein bischen. Adam: Hallo. Ich habe kleine Katze. campus-web: What about the German audience? Adam: It's great. We had a Moshpit. Someone fell over. There were some chicks, four girls right in the front and massive guys right behind them. We just thought "Damn, they fall into the stage. And we were trying to be nice and gorgeous on the stage." It was nearly an accident, but Rock 'n' Roll. campus-web: Any girlfriends or groupies? All together: Ooooh... Michael: Usually include the four females, which are our mums and their partners. Tomorrow night they are coming to Berlin. We're all 21, 22, so maybe old enough to be here without our parents. Adam: Just one – just one for Michael. campus-web: And the others are waiting for the groupies? Adam: Where are the groupies? We’ve been waiting for six years. Where are they? campus-web: Is there any time for sightseeing, when you're on Tour? Darren: Today we were up on the Dom, it's really high and it was great. But it started raining and so we run away. But it looked really nice, it looked beautiful. campus-web: So you met in school? Are you still the same cast? Michael: Yeah, we´re still the same. Best Buds. Adam: When we're on tour, we're gonna see it like a Holiday where we get to play and we really like it. I like it in the hotel, stay the night there, using soap. Darren: There is always something to do on tour. Adam: There is a lot of time between things – like between doin' our Album and having it finished and then doing our tour. When when we're on tour, then it is just fun, you don't have to think about it. Just having fun and drinking. Your decision at night is – should I drink or should I not – that's all you have to think about. campus-web: What about the songwriting – do you have any artistic differences? Adam: I'm starting to write the songs. There is of course a general idea. But I can only do that to a certain point and then we all write it together. But we never finish a song until all four of us like it. It's a long way to the right song. But we always move together and we're always into the song and we always really like it. So that's certain. campus-web:What about your album cover? Did you search for this location? Adam: We want people to see this cover thinking “This might be good music”. It was a little employed guy called Dave Thomas, he’s great, he’s absolutely brilliant. Michael: When he came back from where he did it, with this picture, we said “Yeah, that's amazing Dave, thanks very much. Darren: He told us, he was gone there. It's like an army training house. No one lives in these houses. There are older shelves. It's in England. Adam: Actually during the war, when the depressors army invaded the own town, so they had an army base there and they cannot not storm than in. And after war they just moved out and nothings changed. There was all full of guns and now it's opened to the public two days a year. But there's nothing in there – it's just full of empty things. The simplest must be obvious. all: Yes – parents house! We have our bedrooms upstairs. campus-web: Would you go to London or anywhere else? Adam: We have been to London. It's great, but we don't want to live there. Michael: We have our parents in Edinburgh, they make the tea every night at five o' clock. Who's gonna make the tea in London? I get desired. campus-web: And what have you done before your “real” career started? Darren: We went to university. I studied in Cologne European Film and Media West German. I made a movie once – it was only a minute and a half long. But I don't know where it is, someone has it. Adam: I studied Politics. But I didn't want to become a politician – no way, because it's such a hard job. Sean: I studied Maths. campus-web: Oh my god. Sean: That's how people usually react. I did that as well. campus-web: Do you write the bills now and care about the taxes? Sean: Oh no, I do nothing. (laughing) campus-web: Do you have plans for the next European Tour? Adam: There are plans I think. We don’t know, we’re usually the last people to hear. One of our managers or someone, who says you’re going to Europe next time. It takes someone to mention it accidentally. Darren: That was the same with Germany. We heard it and thought: “Oh, no one told you, but we've got tourbooked in September in Germany." campus-web: Do you have special fans in Germany? Are there any contacts? Adam: We played a gig last day in Münster and some people came up to us, if we want to go for a beer. We never been asked that before. campus-web: What about your idols? You mention Franz Ferdinand and Frightened Rabbit, very modern bands. Do you listen to older music? Michael: It's hard to get really attached when you know this not gonna be any more albums to afford. Adam: I don't know why, when people come sayin “Led Zeppelin, amazing”. I tried to listen to him, but I didn't like it. We don't really know what Postpunk means, it just happens. We sound like we want to, we're very modern. campus-web: What about the very long band name? Where is it from? Michael: It’s a good story. It's really hard to find a band name. At first we didn't like it very much. We thought for a good while and couldn't decide. It wasn't simple and easy, couldn't meant something. We tried to find something, that draws attention towards. Sometimes it's annoying to tell people that's your band name, like “We're the Hairdressers”. Adam: So we don't like when people trying analyze it or read too much into it. We read something on an American website. It's ridiculous, like who pathetic are they? I think it's funny. We don't care at all about our band name. It's just weird. campus-web: What are your plans for the future? Adam: Wives, kids. (laughing). We have one new song, 80% finished. We play straighter a couple of gigs and we had to stop ourselves playing it. We get really excited, but we want to keep it for the next Album. We're getting quite comfortable now in what kind of band we want to be, and I think we're very much done with this record in a time of our life. We're quite ready to feel like a more a proper band and to use a studio and we get more confident. It's gonna be hard, because we think about our songs a lot. But the expectations for the second Albums doesn't bother us. We just wanna play exactly.
